56th ASEAN National Tourism Authority Meeting

The 56th ASEAN National Tourism Authority Meeting, taking place online, is hosted by Laos. Deputy Director General of Tourism Ha Van Sieu led the Vietnamese delegation to attend the Conference. At the meeting, ASEAN tourism officials agreed to continue working together to revive tourism in the region according to the action plan approved earlier this year, while coordinating related sectors. The ultimate goal is to revive the tourism industry and restore visitor numbers to pre-pandemic levels.

To that end, ASEAN countries agree to develop diversified tourism products, marketing campaigns, improve tourism standards and connectivity, and adopt multiple digital systems. to help tourists increase their accessibility to information more easily. The conference focused on reviewing reports of 4 ASEAN Tourism Cooperation Committees, including: ASEAN Tourism Competition Commission, ASEAN Committee for Sustainable and Comprehensive Tourism Development, and ASEAN Tourism Professional Monitoring Committee. Committee on Resources, Monitoring and Evaluation of ASEAN Tourism. At the same time, the Conference will consider and approve/finalize a number of documents, including: reports of the 4 Committees, guidelines on the establishment of an institutionalized tourism mechanism with external partners of Vietnam. ASEAN, ASEAN project proposals for 2022.

The online conference discussed a number of other issues such as: Indonesia and Laos received the position of Chairman and Vice President of the Conference, announced the results of the 25th ASEAN Tourism Ministers Meeting; ASEAN's priorities for 2022 - 2023; ASEAN Tourism Strategy 2016 - 2025; implementing the Joint Statement on promoting cooperation in tourism recovery in ASEAN; cooperation with ASEAN dialogue partners; sub-regional tourism cooperation; Collaborate with other organizations…

In addition, ASEAN countries share ways to attract more tourists to the region after the pandemic as well as focus on ensuring the health and safety of visitors in the context of many new strains circulating. These are the top issues on the agenda of the 56th ASEAN National Tourism Authority Meeting.
