Ta Lai Prison was built by the French colonialists in September 1939 to imprison communists and patriots during the revolution. The colonial government called Ta Lai Camp des travailleurs Talai. Commonly known as Stretch - comes from the French word Camp. The witnesses at Ta Lai Prison often called "Cang Ta Lai - Special Labor Camp" - the usage of comrade Tran Van Giau in his memoir.

On March 27, 1941, the escape from Ta Lai Prison took place. This event has an important significance, reflecting the indomitable, resilient, heroic spirit of the communist soldiers; At the same time, it shows the will and spirit to fight to protect national independence. In any difficult circumstances, the communist soldiers always unite together, try to escape from prison to the Party, with the people to continue fighting; turn the prison into a revolutionary school, ready to sacrifice for the cause of national liberation.

In 2000, on the 110th anniversary of the birth of President Ho Chi Minh, District Party Committee, Tan Phu District People's Committee built a memorial monument marking the event of escaping Ta Lai prison with an area of 32m2 in an area of 4,411. 5m2 on the right bank of Dong Nai river, hamlet 3, Ta Lai commune, Tan Phu district. Recently, the People's Committee of Dong Nai province has issued a decision to rank the relic of the place marking the Ta Lai prison escape event. Ranking the monument will contribute to preserving and promoting the historical value of the monument, becoming a source tourist destination to propagate and educate the patriotism of the people and young generations today and later.
